Customs/Imports
The firm’s global international trade practice helps clients in matters involving the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection “USCBP” (formerly the U.S. Customs Service) and includes representation before the U.S. Court of International Trade. In almost 20 years of practice, the firm has gained a national and international reputation for zealous representation of clients. Our services include counseling business clients by devising strategies to reduce or eliminate duty liability through effective planning. We advise on many aspects of customs law, including product valuation; tariff classification; marking; and qualifying for preferential trade preference programs, such as the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), Caribbean Basin Initiative (CBI), Generalized System of Preferences (GSP), United States- Jordan Free Trade Agreement, and other multilateral and bilateral agreements. We help clients with compliance programs to avoid problems with government agencies that regulate international trade,
including the Food and Drug Administration, Department of Agriculture, Federal Trade Commission, and others. We routinely help clients respond to detention notices and seizures by USCBP involving such issues as trademark, copyright, marking and currency violations. We represent clients in enforcement matters and before the U.S. Court of International Trade to
challenge Customs decisions or actions. As attorneys, our communications with customs clients are typically protected from disclosure in administrative and legal proceedings by the attorney-client privilege. The firm recognizes that compliance requires a balance between the regulatory demands and the finite resources of the company.
